8 Left in Tender for 4 TV Licenses After Epsilon Group Ousted from Auction

Eight candidates for four TV licenses are left following objections to two of the nine bidders. The Greek Secretariat General for Information and Communication announced that there would be eight contenders in the tender that begins on Tuesday morning after there were problems found in two of the bids — specifically those of Ioannis-Vladimir H. Kalogritsas and Phillip Vryonis of the Epsilon Group. Lefteris Kretsos, the general secretary of the secretariat, sought the legal advice of state lawyer Ioannis Mantzouranis when making his decision.
The two controversial bids concerned the following:
Vryonis: The problem arose from the fact that the Hong Kong bank guarantor put forth 36 days instead of the year-long term required by the tender.
Kalogritsas: The 3-million-euro amount for the starting bid was deposited shortly after the deadline jeopardizing the bidding process.
It was decided that Vryonis would be excluded from the TV license auction, however, Kalogritsas will continue in the process to take place on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s auction
Access to the building where the auction will be held will be strictly limited to those participating in the bidding process. On Tuesday, bidders will not have access to electronic devices and will be prevented from communicating with each other. Bids will be increased by 500,000 euros at each round from the 3-million-euro starting amount. Bidders will either be allowed to accept the new price decided upon by a 5-member committee or they would be able to withdraw from the license claim.
