Greek President Meets With Olympic Winners at Presidential Mansion

PAVLOPOULOS
Greek President Prokopis Pavopoulos met Olympic medal winners at the presidential mansion on Thursday. During the reception, the Greek president welcomed the athletes of the Rio Olympics and thanked them for setting a good example for the younger generation who can see what is possible with work and effort.
“You are the living expression of excellence for what you achieved,” he said. “Because you achieved it with tremendous effort, that belongs almost exclusively to you, as well as your parents and your coaches, who must be proud of you. So thank you for your presence and the distinctions you achieved.”
The athletes presented Pavlopoulos with a flag with their signatures to commemorate their efforts at the Rio Olympics that he said would be kept at the mansion as a memento of their achievement. In return, he offered the athletes memorabilia with the Greek presidential seal.
The organizers of the event were left red-faced on social media for their failure to invite Anna Korakaki, the athlete who won two of the six medals for Greece at the Rio Olympics. They insinuated that Korakaki was unable to attend due to her vacation in France.
