According to a market research report by the company IRI, supermarket spending in the past six-month period has plummeted in Greece asĀ Greeks are cash strapped and struggling to buy common household goods, as the economic crisis continues lower salaries are impacting Greek households, the report claims.
The report, according to Kathimerini, shows a decrease from January 2016 – June 2016 of 8.8 percent in supermarket turnover, whereas sales volumes fell even further from last year’s numbers, decreasing 12.6 percent.
The IRI report also showed figures demonstrating a hike in prices of goods by 3.8 percent in the first half of 2016 compared to last year at the same time.
