Greek Police Officer Turned Writer Receives Award by UNHCR

tyrokofteros-1021x576The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees awarded the Greek author and police officer Foteini Konstantopoulou for her book “Mia Zacharenia Syntagi” (A Sugary Recipe) which focuses on the issues of refugee children. The young police officer is the first Greek woman to ever receive the title of UNHCR High Profile Supporter, a significant distinction for her valuable contribution to the global campaign for refugee children.
Foteini Konstantopoulou’s book, “Mia Zacharenia Syntagi,” was published by IANOS in November 2015 and quickly became a Greek best seller. The police officer expressed her wish to share part of the sale profits for the support of refugee children. Therefore her book was placed under the auspices of UNHCR and its revenues were donated to the global campaign BACK2SCHOOL, which supports refugee children’s access to education.
A year later, the author has written a brand new children’s book, titled “Amazing stories: Brainy Cheese” (“O Tyrokofteros”) published by ELLINOEKDOTIKI Publishers.
Tyrokofteros is a smart and delicious triangle piece of cheese. He talks, jokes, laughs… He wonders and has great adventures that will make children’s imagination run wild. The book follows Tyrokofteros from the first moment of his birth (or should we say… production), through all the stages of his life. It is a great way for children to have fun and learn about the production of cheese and also about Tyrokoftero’s friends.
