Ross Daly Invites 140 Musicians from Around the World to the Greek Island of Crete

ross-daly3Houdetsi, a well-known village in Crete, will fill with music in the coming days, thanks to the 7th Houdetsi Music Festival. World music will flood the village Houdetsi in Heraklion for the 7th Houdetsi Music Festival.
Around 140 musicians from around the world will gather in the Cretan village, to participate in 67 concerts that have been scheduled to take place. Houdetsi Music Festival highlights the magic of the meeting and uniting of different musical worlds, combining them harmoniously with local colors, images, scents, and tastes in a celebration of hospitality, extended unconditionally by the local people to all who wish to participate in this unique festival.

According to musician and the festival’s artistic director Ross Daly all the musicians volunteered to participate in the festival. The team of musicians will include teachers from Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, and North Africa.
The Houdetsi Music Festival scheduled Thursday, August 4, until Sunday, August 7 was created and by the musical workshop Lavyrinthos, by people who are dedicated to the research of various musical traditions and opportunities for creative exchange within music.

Ross Daly, the artistic director, was born in England to Irish parents and from a very young age he travelled with them around the world, discovering his passion for music. He first played the cello, while a few years later he started guitar lessons. In the late ’60s, while in San Francisco he first came into contact with the musical tradition of the East, and his life changed radically. Since then he has mastered many musical instruments such as the Cretan lyra, Afghan rabab, lute, lyre, sarangi, oud, saz and tambour.
