Greek Fire Department Combats 1,500 Fire Fronts Every Year

FIREA recent report, brought together by the deputy commander of the Greek Fire Service, Adrianos Gourbatsis, revealed that 1.6 million hectares of land was burned in Greece between 1981 and 2014. The average expanse of land burned annually is 49,054 hectares while the average number of wildfires per year stands at 1,513.
This report came to light a few days after the fire on the island of Evia, which was burning for a total of four days and destroyed 2,700 hectares of forestland.
The fire service in Greece is battling wildfires on numerous fronts, as it happens every year during the summer months.
