Greek President Pavlopoulos: 'The Country Still Suffering from Mistakes of the First Memorandum'

PavlopoulosPresident of Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos noted that there is need for corrections to the Greek program commenting on IMF’s report at a meeting on Friday with the Board of the World Hellenic Inter – Parliamentary Association.
“The country is still suffering from the mistakes of the first memorandum” said Pavlopoulos.
The IEO report showed a large number of mistakes were made in the first program imposed on Greece, with the country’s economy still reeling as a result, Pavlopoulos said. “I believe that the admission of those mistakes will lead, in the implementation of the present program and without undermining essential fiscal discipline, to the corrections that must be made. Because these mistakes are not due to us. Program corrections must be made in a way such that the program is implemented but is friendlier to sustainable growth in Greece. We will carry out any reforms that are needed to ensure the growth of Greece,” he added.
The president expressed hope that Greece’s partners will “help us out” in the wake of the IEO report, without this meaning that Greece will back away from its obligation to demonstrate fiscal discipline.
