Arsonists Put Explosive Device in Luxury Athens Hotel

policeTwo men wearing motorcycle helmets on Monday put an explosive device in the side entrance of Margi Hotel in Vouliagmeni, a southern suburb of Athens.
Hellenic Police sources said that the visual material collected from the seaside hotel closed circuit monitoring system, shows two helmeted men on a large motorcycle appearing at 5:10 a.m. on Monday and setting up the device. Then they fled the scene at high speed.
The explosion caused minor damages. Police collected debris from the explosive mechanism and transferred it to the Criminal Investigation Division.
Police officers estimate that the perpetrators of the attack are “paid bombers” of the underworld, who were assigned to hit the hotel in order to intimidate the owners.
There have been several similar attacks in the southern suburbs in 2016, police say, for blackmail purposes. The owner of the hotel is expected to testify to the police, in order to clarify if he had any personal or financial differences and whether he has received any threats in the past.
