FAZ: 'Resignation, Disillusion, Bitterness' for Greeks

CRISIS
German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) presents an article signed by Richard Fraunberger, who has lived in Greece for the past 15 years. The article is an assessment of the situation in Greece from July 2015 when the referendum took place with reference to the negotiations of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Brussels, the promise and his U-turn in negotiations.
He notes that Greece was sunk into a state of shock following the election of SYRIZA, the first leftist government of Greece against political austerity in the Eurozone. He points to stats that show that in the past seven years, Greeks have seen their GDP shrink and unemployment spike by 24 percent, the highest in Europe.
The article continues by stating that shock is deep. He likens it to the disappointment a child feels when promises chocolate but gets a slap in return. “Resignation, disillusion, bitterness. Nothing has changed, nothing became better for citizens. On the contrary. That is why there is apathy, shock,” says the journalist.
