Constitutional Review on Electoral Law Changes to Begin

TSIPRA
A high-ranking official of the government confirmed that discussion on constitutional review will take place. Debate will take place on the cancellation of a 50-seat bonus to the winning party in elections, without however, at this stage, securing the number needed in order to reach the required 200 seats that the Constitution demands for the new electoral law to be applied in the next elections.
The official said that the discussion between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and conservative New Democracy Party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was focused on constitutional review, and left open the window of possibility concerning convergence. He said that Despite the fact that Mitsotakis doesn’t agree with a referendum and the direct election of a President, his party has agreed to converge on the opening of articles with which it disagrees with.
He criticized the opposition for lacking credibility, pointing to the socialist PASOK party that now hesitates in voting for a proposal similar to another it had brought forth itself just one year earlier.
