Greek Road Accidents Rose by 12.3% But With Fewer Deaths

Greek statistics for road accidents rose by 12.3 percent in April compared to the previous year, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority of Greece (ELSTAT). The data included road accidents that caused death or injury. The number of accidents came to 1,065 compared to 948 in April 2015.
Among the casualties of the accidents that caused injuries in April 2016, there were 68 that resulted in death, 75 with serious injuries, 1,161 with slight injuries. In contrast, the accidents in April 2015 result in 69 deaths, 78 serious injuries and 1,049 slightly injured. Hence, despite the increase in accidents, there was a 3.8 percent decrease for persons who were seriously injured and a 10.7 percent increase for people slightly injured.

Data shows that most accidents occurred in Athens, whereas the north Aegean had the more serious accidents in terms of death and injuries, followed by the Ionian and the Peloponnese.
