The abandoned village at the foot of Mount Profitis Ilias was built by Italians during World War II. They settled there, eyeing the timber trade but also hoping to exploit the forest area for tourism. High officials gathered here, with Eleousas Square surrounded by imposing buildings. The market area had arches and small balconies, whereas the prison created across from the market place operates as a school today. A sanitorium, and the once-Catholic church now operates as Saint Haralambos. A round water well gathers water flowing from the natural source of Koskinisti.
