Syrian Teenager Shot While Trying to Cross Border Back to Turkey

injured
A teenage Syrian refugee, aged 16, has been lightly injured after being shot by an unknown assailant while trying to illegally re-enter Turkey, from which he had entered Greece earlier. The young refugee and an older Iraqi, aged 21, had entered a small inflatable dinghy and tried to cross the Evros river, Greece’s northeastern border with Turkey near Didimoticho.
Greek police say that the two refugees were shot at by two men on the Turkish side of the border with a shotgun before the two men ran away. The incident was announced on Friday.
There are currently 57,000 migrants and other refugees stranded in Greece after a number of closures at the Balkan border that has frustrated their plans to reach other European countries. A number of refugees feel disillusioned enough to cross back to Turkey.
