The shooting last night in Ayia Napa in which 4 people were killed and 2 injured is now reported to have been specific targeting of local business owner Fanos Kalopsidiotis.
Both Kalopsidiotis, a friend and the friend’s wife were dining at a restaurant on Katalymanton Street in Ayia Napa when two gunmen started shooting. Children who were eyewitnesses to the crime were later aided by the Welfare Office who arrived at the scene last night.
The names of the victims have been released, sources have said.
Aside from Fanos Kalopsidiotis, 46-year-old Elias Hadjiefstathiou and his wife Skevi Hadjiefstathiou, 39, were killed.
A foreign national, 42, was also killed in the shooting. Sigma TV’s sources have said that the assailant that was killed was an Albanian national. One of the injured — a police officer who was at the scene — was transferred late last night to Nicosia General for emergency care and is currently fighting for his life. The other injured person present at the shooting is currently in the Famagusta General Hospital and undergoing surgery for a wound sustained when the bullet passed through the shoulder.
The shooting occurred on Katalymaton Street, very close to where five people were shot dead outside an Ayia Napa club four years ago to the day.
