Greece has Nothing to Fear in case of Brexit, says Minister

xydakis1Greece has no reason to fear the consequences of a Brexit vote, said Greek Alternate Foreign MinisterĀ for European Affairs, Nikos Xydakis, on Wednesday.
The Greek minister spoke to EurActiv on the issue. “Athens has no particular reason to be afraid. However, it is concerned about the future of the EU integration process,” he said.
Xydakis said that the Greek government has been cautious over several UK “opt-outs” from EU policies, such as judicial cooperation.
“We strongly criticised it as too many opt-outs will significantly weaken [the European] unification project and vision,” the minister told EurActiv.
Greece remains committed to further economic and political unification, Xydakis said, claiming ” it will make the EU more attractive in citizens’ eyes as they demand a single labor market and rights.”
The alternate minister stated that Athens is definitely against a Brexit. “A British exit from the EU would adversely affect British and Irish people on an economic level and possibly strengthen the centrifugal tendencies in Scotland,” Xydakis said, adding that a Brexit would deal a political blow to Europe.
“Europeā€™s pylon in the Atlantic Ocean will be weakened. Europe without Britain is unimaginable, considering the historical balance of power,” he stressed.
