Photo Clubs in Greece and Turkey Host Joint Exhibition in Celebration of Peace and Friendship Between Neighbors

neighbors light photo exhibitionThe Mytilini Photography Association alongside Izmir Photography Group, Chios Photo Club and Bergama Photography Group are co-hosting a collective exhibition titled Neighbor’s Light (Fos Geitoniko in Greek, Komşunun Işığı in Turkish).
This collaboration between the four cities’ photo clubs aims to bring Greece and Turkey closer together through a common medium of art.
The exhibit was inspired by the idea that people for two very different cultures and countries which exhibit much tension over generations due to war and occupation, can actually come together and exchange ideas, knowledge and experience.
The photographers snapped photos of all types of subjects ranging from nature landscapes, portraits and still-life.
The exhibit runs from May 28, as it started in Bergama, Turkey and will run through September 8 in various locations.
You can visit Neighbor’s Light in Greece on the islands of Chios on July 2 and in Mytilini, Lesbos on August 20.
Its last stop on September 8 is quite significant in reiterating the message of the photographers participating in this exhibit of peace and friendship. The tour will end in what was once the city of Smyrna, now called Izmir, a location that is of cultural significance to many Greeks who are the descendants of refugees who fled the city of Smyrna in 1922 following Turkish soldiers setting the city ablaze and starting a rampage of rape, pillage and mass murder.
