Police Evacuate Makeshift Migrant Camp in Northern Greece

Hellenic Police on Monday are in the process of evacuating a makeshift migrant camp next to a gas station at Polykastro in northern Greece.
Since 7:30 in the morning, about 300 men of riot police have started the operation of removing 1,828 people, according to official estimates. Police officers have been ordered not to use force during the operation. The migrants will be taken to proper hospitality facilities in northern Greece.
Police are putting migrants on buses that transfer them to official hospitality facilities.
According to police, a similar operation will take place on Tuesday at a nearby makeshift camp next to another gas station. It is estimated that 1,109 people camp there.
Police will also evacuate another makeshift camp around a hotel in Evzones border town. Official estimates put the number of migrants located there at 827.
During the operation, police arrested 30 foreign volunteers who allegedly were urging migrants to refuse to move to official migrant camps.
