MasterChef Australia Contestant Zoe Konikkos Emotional as Team Loses Greek Food Challenge [video]

Greek-Australian Zoe Konikkos experienced an emotionally charged challenge on Wednesday night’s MasterChef Australia. With the theme of Greek cuisine as the challenge, Konikkos was unable to lead her team to victory.

The Greek-Australian was raised with an abundance of Greek culture, grew up speaking Greek in her home and admitted that she didn’t speak English until she started school and went to kindergarten. Konikkos faced her biggest challenge yet at this challenge that was held at the Hellenic Republic restaurant, owned by judge George Calombaris.

After she was selected as the lead for the red team, the young chef admitted that she was “really scared.”

The competition was an emotional rollercoaster as Konikkos was very much personally vested in winning the Greek challenge.

Emotions ran high as she yelled at her team on several occasions after realizing that her guests had been waiting for over 15 minutes for their main courses.

“Get those in the oven, asap!” she snapped. “I’m having a complete panic attack!”

When it came time to reveal the winners of the challenge, judge Calombaris thanked the teams for serving the 120 guests who dined at his restaurant that evening. His mother, Mary, was a special guest judge as well.

It all came down to “too much cinnamon in their donut dessert” costing the red team the victory that Konikkos so desperately wanted.

“I feel like I let them down,” cried Zoe. “I take full responsibility.”
