Greek Opposition Leader Mitsotakis Meets with German Chancellor

assets_LARGE_t_420_54684615_type13145New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the 40-year anniversary of the establishment of the European People’s Party on Monday in Luxembourg.
The conservative party chief spoke with the German head of state for about 30 minutes and they discussed economic issues and the refugee crisis in Europe.
Mitsotakis explained his policy proposals regarding taxation and fiscal targets. He said that Greece needs a mix of structural reforms, cuts in state spending privatizations and a tax reductions, all measures aiming at giving impetus to the Greek economy. He also explained that the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition is unable to implement the much-needed reforms.
Regarding the migrant crisis, the New Democracy chief claimed that the unsuccessful handling of the issue by the Greek government has exacerbated the problem, and the European Union-Turkey agreement was absolutely necessary in order to stem the flows of refugees from the Turkish shores to the Greek islands.
Mitsotakis praised the EPP for its contribution to maintaining integrity in Europe, adding that New Democracy is the only party in Greece that has always been pro-Europe and never negotiated its European orientation.
