PUTSIPRussian President Vladimir Putin will meet with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during his visit to Greece on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28. The two men will discuss energy and transport projects of mutual interest, said an announcement by the Kremlin. The high-level talks are expected to include key issues concerning bilateral cooperation in trade, economic affairs and investment. The same announcement also pointed to the implementation of projects in energy and transport that would be discussed during the meeting of the two leaders.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation will also be discussed within the framework of the cross-cultural “Greece in Russia, Russia in Greece” designated focus of 2016. The celebration coincides with the millennial anniversary of a Russian monastic presence on the “Holy Mountain” at the Mount Athos peninsula in Halkidiki.
Putin has not visited an EU member-state for more than a year. His visit may coincide with that of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow to Greece on May 27-29.
