Police to Evacuate Migrant Camp on Greece-FYROM Border

eidomeni4Greek authorities plan to evacuate the makeshift migrant camp at Idomeni, located near the Greece-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border.
The spokesman for the coordinating committee for refugees, Giorgos Kyritsis, said that the evacuation will take place Tuesday or Wednesday. He said that the migrants will be transferred to official migrant camps.
Kyritsis denied a report that ten riot police units have moved to nearby Kilkis. He clarified that the transfer of refugees will be aided by police but no force whatsoever will be used.
According to the committee for refugees spokesman, migrant hospitality facilities near Thessaloniki that can hold 6,000 people are ready to accept people from Idomeni. He also said that in the past two days, about 2,000 refugees were transferred to proper camps, adding that shelters with all the proper health and housing facilities is the best initiative for migrants to move from Idomeni.
Kyritsis said that migrants who had camped for weeks at Piraeus Port moved immediately after they were offered a place in official migrant camps.
Meanwhile, 54,185 identified refugees and migrants were on the Greek territory on Friday including 50 persons that arrived on the Greek islands in the last 24 hours.
