‘We the People: The Market Basket Effect’ Airs on May 18th

We the People

The Greek-focused and produced documentary “We the People: The Market Basket Effect” will be airing this Wednesday, May 18th, at 7PM ET on Pivot.

The documentary was produced by Ted Leonsis and narrated by Greek-American actor Michael Chiklis (“The Shield”). It focuses on the unique story of a feud between related business owners Arthur T. and Arthur S. Demoulas.

Arthur T. was removed by his cousin, Arthur S., as the CEO of Market Basket, a multibillion-dollar supermarket chain. This move angered employees and customers so much that it created a ripple effect that led to one of the biggest economic movements in the USA.

Arthur T. Demoulas had always strongly advocated for reasonable treatment and compensation for his employees, while his cousin was more concerned with turning a bigger profit – needless to say, this put the store’s employees and customers on Arthur T’s side.

Over 25,000 employees and 2 million customers across New England protested the move and used their collective voice to fight for Arthur T. to be reinstated as Market Basket’s CEO. Surprisingly, the combined efforts of all these people worked to affect upper level corporate decisions.

Tune in on Pivot this Wednesday, May 18th to see the story of an entrepreneurial Greek family who built a business from the ground up after coming to the US 100 years ago, and to also be inspired by the power a group of regular people can wield when they work together, and the change they can affect in a major, multibillion-dollar corporation.
