Greece did not qualify for the 2016 Eurovision song contest grand final for the first time.
This year, Greece was represented in the competition by the Thessaloniki-based group Argo. The group competed with 18 acts for a place in the May 14 final, which will be held in Stockholm this year.
Argo’s song “Utopian Land” combined traditional Pontian lyra and dancing, female singers and a bit of rap thrown in. The Greek lyrics had references to the Greek economic crisis and the ongoing refugee drama.
The second semi final will take place in Stockholm on Thursday. This is the first time Greece has failed to reach the final, after the semi final system was introduced in 2004.
