ECB President: Greek Economy Backslided in 2015

mario_draghiGreece has made reforms in the past few months but its economy backslided in 2015, said European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi.
In an interview to German newspaper Bild, the ECB chief was asked why Greece has not been able to stand on its feet after all the billions in loans. To that, Draghi replied, “It is clear that last year Greece’s economy backslided. Now everyone knows that there is no growth without reforms. And what the country and its citizens need most of all is growth.”
The ECB President admitted that, “Greece has implemented many reforms in the past few months and is focusing on a reform path.”
Draghi underlined that the problems Greece is facing have nothing to do with the euro and that the country needs to implement those reforms. “The challenges Greece is facing have little to do with the euro. Reforms must had been implemented in any case. Inside the Eurozone Greece can achieve that with the support of its partners,” he said.
Draghi also added that it is not up to the ECB to decide who should be in the Eurozone and who shouldn’t because this is a matter of member-states.
