FYROM Police Return to Greece Refugees Who Crossed Border Illegally

Greece_FYROM_RefugeesSeveral groups of refugees and migrants have tried to cross the Greek border to get into FYROM, but were detained by police and returned to the country, according to a Sputnik report.
The report cites a witness who spoke to RIA Novosti news agency on Sunday. The migrants crossed from a point that was not guarded, but FYROM police launched a search operation and apprehended them. The violators were returned to Greece.
“There was heavy rain at night, several groups of refugees having grown tired of their fate took advantage of this and crossed from the territory of Greece in FYROM at night,” the witness said.
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has shut its borders to migrants and refugees in February along with Serbia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria.
As a result, thousand of migrants and refugees are stranded at the makeshift Idomeni camp on the Greece-FYROM crossing point in the hope that the border will open again.
Since February, migrants have been trying to cross the border illegally, but in most cases were arrested by FYROM police and returned to Greece.
