Great Greek actor, Giannis Voglis, died on Wednesday at the age of 79 after suffering from a long-term disease. For the past long while, he was intubated at the hospital, and according to information, in two and half months, he had undergone through three surgeries.
Giannis Voglis was born in Athens on September 30th 1937. He studied drama at the school of Pelou Katseli. His first appearance on stage was in 1961, in the play “The rise of Artouro”, directed by Karolos Koun. His first appearance in the big screen was in the movie “The Proud Ones.”
Despite the fact that he became famous through several remarkable films, Voglis worked mainly in theatre. He had worked with several important actors of his caliber, while he also worked as an executive of theatrical organizations and groups.
Voglis was also the founder of the Art Foundation “Anatoli.” Several of his most significant productions were “Captain Michalis,” “Alexis Zorbas,” “Greece-Ritsos Long Way,” “My Dear Grandfather” and others, which toured in Greece, Cyprus and Canada with great success.
Between 2000 and 2005 Voglis was in Cyprus, where he served as an art manager for the Foundation for the Theater Development of Limassol (ETHAL) and “Skala” theater in Larnaca. From 2009 until 2009, he was chosen by the as the art manager of Patras‘s Municipal and Regional Theatre (DIPETHE).
