His confidence that “New Democracy is the alternative that can pull Greece out of the crisis,” expressed the president of Greece’s main opposition party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview on CNN International.

Mitsotakis, currently in the U.S., appeared optimistic that the conservative party will win the next election. “The government has lost people’s trust. People are fed up with the government.  He had enough people with this Government. I don’t know what would trigger an election, but we are ready and we will win,” he said, and added: “Greece needs a government that will be in favor of entrepreneurship. A government that will bring growth back to Greece.”

The New Democracy chief stressed the need for structural reforms: “We will implement quickly the structural reforms the economy needs. We know what we need to do today to support entrepreneurship. In Greece there are still investment opportunities. But Greece needs a government that can implement these reforms. The right reforms.” And he continued: “Greece needs foreign investments. This is the strategy for the country to go forward, not austerity. But this government cannot [follow this strategy].”

“Greece needs a stable tax system and less bureaucracy. There is no room for more taxes,” Mitsotakis concluded.”

Meeting with Archbishop Demetrios

Earlier, the President of New Democracy met with Archbishop of America Demetrios

“I had the opportunity to visit with the Archbishop Demetrios and congratulate him personally for the extremely good work that has been done,” Mitsotakis said.

“Conversations with him are extremely pleasant and very interesting. He is a man with an inherent and natural disposition to improve the lives not only of his flock, but he also has a keen interest in developments in Greece,” he continued.

“I passed him the message that myself personally and New Democracy will support him in the great work he is doing here in America,” Mitsotakis concluded.
