Belgian multidisciplinary artist Jan Fabre, decided to quit his position as the director of the annual Athens & Epidaurus (International) Festival for the 2016 – 2019 period, amidst reactions by Greek artists against the programme he created.
On the website of the Belgian newspaper “L’avenir“, the first announcement of Jan Fabre’s resignation was published saying “I accepted the invitation by the Greek Minister of Culture, on the condition that I could do my artistic choices under a regime of freedom. This is not possible any more in Greece. I do not want to work in a hostile artistic environment in which I came with an open mind and heart.”
Fabre, after Aristeidis Mpaltas‘s inability to manage the uproar of reactions, announced his resignation this morning.
