Alternate Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas, announced on Tuesday from Chios that “the government is planning the transportation of refugees and migrants to neighboring uninhabited islets.”
Chios is the Minister’s second “stop” for Tuesday, as he is visiting the hot spots and accommodation centers in the North Aegean.
“The planning is heading towards the right direction and the inhabitants of Chios should not worry,” Toskas highlighted during his visit.
Answering questions regarding the existence of an alternative in case the number of refugees and migrants who remain in the hot spot becomes unmanageable, Toskas said that amongst others, “the possibility of transferring outnumbered refugees and migrants to neighboring uninhabited islets is being cogitated.”
Regarding the request of the people who stay under constriction at the hot spot to not return to Turkey or their country of origin, the Alternate Citizen Protection Minister said that “in this case, it is not about what everyone wants but what the process and deals foresee.” During Toskas’s visit in Chios, refugees and migrants protested against their refoulement to Turkey.
