Cyprus' Initiative on Cultural Heritage Statement Endorsed by 145 UN Members

A total of 145 UN member states and observers, including four Security Council permanent members, have signed a joint statement on the protection of cultural heritage, put forward by a cross-regional group of countries. The statement is considered to be the culmination of a relevant initiative, undertaken by the Permanent Representation of Cyprus in Geneva.
According to an official announcement, the statement, condemning all acts of intentional destruction to cultural heritage, during or in the aftermath of armed conflicts around the world, was read by Andreas Ignatiou, the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to Geneva, at the plenary of the UN Human Rights Council.
