Turkey Playing Hard Ball With Europe’s Leaders But Deal Looks Set for Approval

Latest reports from Brussels is that Turkish Prime Minister has accepted a deal proposed to Ankara by Europe’s leaders after the latter had agreed on a joint position to put to Turkey after late-night talks on Thursday.
The plan suggests that for every Syrian refugee sent back, another Syrian would be resettled in the EU directly from refugee camps in Turkey.
The deal involves top up financial assistance to Turkey by an additional 3 billion euros, with Turkey accepting to take back all migrants that traveled from Turkey to Greece.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said he was optimistic that “a common ground” could be found, but insisted on keeping a “humanitarian perspective” on the deal.
The issues of visa liberalization and that of speeding up EU membership negotiations remained contentious. Both are key to Turkey, but were met with skepticism from various EU member states
