Greek Government Officials Meet to Address Understaffing Problem in Public Sector

Public Sector EmployeesGreek government officials held a meeting today to address what they regard as the understaffing problem facing Greece’s public sector.
State Minister Flambourakis and deputy minister of administrative reform Vernardakis were among those present at today’s meeting, with participants agreeing to the creation of a task force whose main duty will be to work out a plan in coordination with all ministries for the hiring of new staff.
The health and education sectors are the ones facing understaffing issues.
A shortage of teachers has been recorded for years now, creating a severe problem for many schools and students.
As for the health sector, the problem of physician shortages is especially severe as thousands of Greek doctors and medical staff have opted to work abroad since the eruption of the crisis. In Germany, there is an entire “colony” of Greek doctors, drawing salaries four or five times higher than what they would have been making had they remained in bankrupt Greece.
