EU Decides to Shut Down Greece's Northern Border Trapping Refugees in Greece, Report Says

metanastes-EEThe 28 European Union leaders finally decided to close the borders in the Balkans and Greece has agreed to it, according to a report in French newspaper Le Figaro.
The report says that Greece has agreed to keep refugees and migrants on its soil in exchange for financial aid to cope with accommodating hundreds of thousands people.
“The 28 EU countries agreed Sunday to close the Balkan Route. The wave of illegal migrants being transported in the Western Balkans is coming to an end: this road will now be closed,” says the draft of the decision, that has leaked to the press.
The decision will be officially announced today, Monday, after the European Union summit on the refugee crisis with the participation of Turkey.
According to the report based on the leaked document, “The EU will support Greece in this difficult time and will do the maximum to help manage the situation.”
Germany disagrees with closing of the Balkan Route
Germany will not accept the draft of the summit and will not approve the decision on closure of the Balkan Route.
This is what German officials said on ZDF television on Monday morning, only hours ahead of the crucial summit in Brussels.
The officials from Berlin said characteristics that Germany does not agree with the draft of the summit “as it stands right now,” and stressed that the Balkan Route will not be closed.
It is also highlighted that European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, want to delete from the summit text the term “Balkan Route.”
