Alexander Payne Set to Direct Travel Tale ‘My Saga’

Alexander Payne

Alexander Payne, the award-winning director of “Nebraska” and “The Descendants”, is set to hit the road to direct the Norwegian travel tale “My Saga”.

Payne was handpicked for this job by Bona Fide Productions’ Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, with whom he has worked together for the 1998 cult hit “Election” starring Reese Witherspoon.

The story is based on Karl Ove Knausgaard’s travel story “My Saga”, which captivated Berger so much when he read it on a flight to Scandinavia that he started securing rights and making production deals during his trip.

According to Berger, Payne is the perfect match for this screenplay, as his dry comic sensibilities align perfectly with the Scandinavian humor in the screenplay. Besides, Payne has directed wonderful road trip movies with plenty of Oscar nominations and Wins, like “Nebraska” and “Sideways”.

Most importantly, according to the producer, “I think Alexander has the ideal sensibility for a comedy about cultural misunderstanding”.

For now, Alexander Payne is currently working on bringing the high-concept, innovative film “Downsizing” to the screen, which has attracted plenty of A-list celebrities like Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon. It won’t be released until 2017.
