The hotspot of Chios has officially commenced its operation as 70 refugees arrived and registered today.
Executives of UNHCR led the refugees inside the building in order to register and identify them by handing them numbered bracelets and bottled water. After that, the refugees were called to fill in a form with their data, whereas executives of FRONTEX proceeded with their identification.
The hot spot is an old factory in Chalkeios and has room for 1095 people. The 67 small houses have beds, furniture and heat and cover a total space of 2,655 square feet. Eight more houses were built into hygiene spaces, which are fully equipped with sinks, toilets and showers with hot water and cover a total space of 309 square feet.
However, what troubles the local authorities is that during the summer season the refugee flows reach up to 3,000 people daily and the hot spot can only host up to 1095 people.
