Greek PM Holds Brief Talks With Cameron and Merkel In London

merkel_tsiprasGreece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had a meeting with both British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in London today, on the sidelines of the Syrian donor conference aimed at raising $9 billion for Syrian refugees.
The meeting between Tsipras and Cameron focused on the importance of education in preventing the emergence of an underclass among Syrian refugees living in countries near their homeland, but discussions also included the Cyprus issue and Britain’s future in the European Union.
The meeting between Tsipras and Merkel focused on the progress of Greece’s economic programme and the management of the refugee crisis.
According to the Greek prime minister’s press office, Tsipras informed the German Chancellor of his government’s proposed plan for pension reform and underlined the importance of a timely completion of the review process for the new bailout program.
Regarding the refugee crisis, both leaders agreed that efforts must be intensified by all parties involved and that time is running out, especially since experts forecast greater number of refugees seeking to make their way into Europe in the next couple of years.
