Protesting Farmers Cut Greece in Half by Blocking Highways

FarmersProtesting Greek farmers will block the main national highway until 8 pm on Monday at Tempi, in Thessaly, central Greece, and decided to extend roadblocks.
Farmers unions convened on Monday and decided on further actions and extending roadblocks at Tempi and other parts of Greece. They are also still refusing to meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
Evros farmers have completely blocked the customs offices at Kipi, totally shutting down movement of trucks to and from Turkey at that point.
President of the Alexandroupolis farmers union Kostas Alexandris said that the developments so far have not generated the proper conditions for a dialogue between farmers and government as their main demand is the withdrawal of the draft laws on security fund reforms and taxation.
Alexandris told reporters that truck drivers who are carrying cargo to and from Turkey and are trapped at Kipi border crossing, will be given food and water for as long as the blockade continues.
Another blockade has been set up at the Promahonas border-crossing point to and from Bulgaria with farmers saying that they may extend the existing block to supply trucks to buses and private cars as well.
