Ten children and 16 adults were the victims of another refugee tragedy in the Aegean, this time off the straits of Samos island.
A boat carrying an unspecified number of passengers capsized under unknown circumstances off Samos island resulting in at least 26 drownings.
So far Frontex and the Hellenic Coast Guard said that ten children and 16 adults were found dead. Ten people were rescued, yet authorities believe the death toll will rise since it is suspected that there were several more people on the boat.
The Hellenic Coast Guard received a message of a wreck on Wednesday night and rushed to Kokkari beach where a man had managed to swim to the shore. All the survivor told the coast guard men was that there was confusion on the dinghy transporting him and he could neither recall the number of passengers nor the spot of the accident.
Frontex and Greek coast guard vessels are in a search and rescue mission for the remaining passengers with the help of a helicopter.
