EU Report Says Greece Has Neglected Its Obligations Under Schengen Agreement

Prosfyges EidomeniThe European Union bemoans once again alleged lack of Greek border control to stem migrants and threatens Greece with expulsion from the Schengen area if it does not do more about it.
Indeed, a draft report by the European Commission says that Greece has been “seriously neglecting its obligations” under the Schengen Agreement.
Among the complaints launched against Greece is that the immigrants who arrived in Europe in November had not been registered and finger printed.
If the report is approved by Schengen members, Greece will have three months to take action to improve its border checks.
Interestingly enough, EU Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos conceded that Greek authorities had not carried out their obligations according to the Schengen agreement, but that efforts have been made to rectify the situation since November, although “substantial improvements” were still needed.
