Greek FM Kotzias: No Country Can Totally Control its Borders

kotzias_stenmmeBilateral relations, the refugee issue, the crises in several regions as well as the Cyprus issue were among the topics discussed during a working dinner hosted by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeir to his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias on Saturday evening in Berlin.
Kotzias rejected the possibility of the Greek and Turkish coast guard forming a joint patrol unit in the Aegean Sea and suggested Frontex undertake the readmission to Turkey of those migrants not entitled to asylum after their identification in Greece.
“The real problem of the refugee issue is the conflict in Syria”, said Kotzias noting that countries that abide by the Schengen Agreement do not have as many problems with refugees and migrants.
Kotzias did reiterate that no country can totally control its borders.
