Greek Unions Organize Strike Against Pension Reform on February 4

apergia-gsee-adedy-poreiaGreek labor unions are preparing for a 24-hour nationwide strike, set to take place on Thursday, February 4, reported Reuters. The Greek Parliament is expected to vote on the new pension reform in the beginning of February. The reform is supposed to impose further cuts on benefits and also increase the citizens’ social security contributions in order to make Greece’s pension system viable.
This vote will be a test for the SYRIZA-led government and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who has already lost several MPs and is leading the parliament with a small majority.
The strike is organized by the Greek public sector labor union GSEE and its private sector counterpart ADEDY.
