Greek President Pavlopoulos Meets with Putin in Moscow, Extends Invite to Athens

Putin_PavlopoulosPresident of the Greek Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos while on a two-day visit in Moscow, met with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in his presidential residence on Friday January 15. Aside from strengthening ties between the two countries, the visit encompassed overcoming the challenges of the economy and the hope of ending the war in Syria.
The Greek President expressed that Greece considers the contribution of the Russian state and its people integral in dealing with the challenges facing the entire world.
“The challenges concern not only the economy, but the people and democracy,” noted Mr. Pavlopoulos, emphasizing that “any differences between Russia and the EU will be solved as soon as possible with the institutional processes.”
In addition to stressing the challenges of the economy, the Greek President expressed the hope to end the war in Syria, to consolidate peace and to defend mankind against the crimes of humanity committed by the terrorist Islamic State.
On his part Mr. Putin gave a warm welcome to the Greek President and stressed that within the next year, there will be 37 events held between Greece and Russia. The Russian President also noted that Greece is a friendly country in which Russia shares unique historical links.
Mr. Pavlopoulos underlined that the visit to Moscow is in honor of the Greece-Russia year 2016 and continued by extending an invitation for President Poutin to visit Greece.
