Greek-Australian Receives Junior Doctor Award

greek-doctorGreek-Australian doctor Anastasia Vlachadis-Castles received the Junior Doctor Award from the Medical Board of Victoria, Australia. The young doctor who works the night shift at Northern and Austin hospitals, also acts as chairperson of the program providing counseling and educational support to young doctors.

Anastasia initially studied Radiology at Monash University and then Medicine at Deakin University. She has a Greek Studies degree and for about two years she used to teach Greek at VSL.

The award she received recognizes the contribution of young doctors in medicine and research. The Medical Board of Victoria hands out this award every year during a special event.

The application form for the young Greek-Australian’s nomination was signed and sent by Dr. Bill Van-Gaal, director of the Cardiology Department at Northern Hospital.

“My goal as a doctor is to help people, and it’s great to be recognized for doing something I love,” said the young doctor. “It’s a lot of hard work, it’s definitely worth it – I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

Anastasia wishes to continue her studies in medicine and to specialize in cardiology.
