Epiphany Celebrated in Famagusta for the First Time Since War

Varosha_EpiphanyFor the first time after the 1974 Turkish invasion in Cyprus Greek-Cypriots were allowed to celebrate Epiphany in Famagusta.
Symbolizing a blessing of the waters, and the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan, Epiphany is an important day for the Orthodox population of Cyprus.
The permission by the Turkish side to allow the celebration comes as a possible positive sign of the peace talks for the reunification of the island.
