A Syrian refugee passed away in the early hours of January 2, 2016, only moments after her arrival on the coast of the Greek island of Lesvos, south of Mytilene.
The 60-year-old woman, reportedly suffered from serious heart disease and her health had deteriorated due to the bad weather conditions, combined with the hardship of her journey.
On January 1st, an infant (refugee) was put to rest in a burial ceremony near the Kara Tepe refugee camp. The young child had died last Wednesday in the refugee camp.
According to the forensic report, the infant had died because of a serious problem in the lungs.
Lesvos is one of the main arrival points for refugees who arrive in Greece, most of whom prefer to continue moving north through the Balkans to find a new home in wealthier European countries.
