New Democracy Presidency Candidates Battle it Out Ahead of January Ballot

Meima-MitsotThe two candidates for the New Democracy presidency will battle it out on the January 10 ballot and figures show that the race will be close.
Vangelis Meimarakis has about 41 percent of the total vote in Sunday’s election, while Kyriakos Mitsotakis trails behind by about 10 percentage points. However, a lot will depend on the support of the two candidates who lost on the first ballot and the alliances that will be formed until January 10.
Both candidates, however, expressed displeasure over the fact that it has been two days after the election and the completed results have not arrived yet. So far, the results represent only 85 percent of the total vote.
Adonis Georgiadis – who only got about 11 percent of the vote – spoke on Real FM on Tuesday morning and expressed his full support for Mitsotakis in the second round. He said that Mitsotakis represents renewal and reform of the conservative party.
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, who came third in the election, has not expressed an opinion as to who the party chief should be.
