A new opinion poll shows that the popularity of the SYRIZA ruling party is waning, being only 1 percentage point ahead of New Democracy.
New Democracy popularity is also lower than in the September election results, according to a survey conducted by prorata research company on behalf of Efimerida ton Syntakton newspaper.
The poll also reflects the abstaining of Greeks from the ballot box in September, where only 55% of registered voters went to the polls.
Participants in the survey showed that they are very disappointed by the course the country is on and the state of their finances. Potential voters hold the government responsible for the state Greece is in.
As a result, if elections were held today, only 20% would vote for SYRIZA, compared to the 36.5% the leftist party got in September. At the same time, the conservative party would get 19% of the vote, compared to the 28.5% in September.
The majority of respondents are in favor of a wider government with more parties participating in the administration. It is indicative that enlargement of the government parliamentary majority with another parliamentary party. It is indicative that 29% request the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition to cooperate with New Democracy.
