Greek-Australian Andrew Liveris Chairman and chief executive officer of Dow Chemical Company could become the CEO of the second largest chemicals company in the world, if the talks about the merge between Dow Chemical and DuPont are successful.
If the two chemicals giants merge they would form a 160-billion dollar company, with Liveris as executive chairman, while DuPont chief executive Edward Breen is expected to keep his title.
Liveris has been a member of Dow’s board of directors since February 2004, CEO since November 2004 and was elected as chairman of the board on April 1, 2006. Liveris has continued to form joint ventures for the business, his most recent initiative in chlor-alkali with the Mitsui Group in Japan as a partner. The recovery plan has been accompanied by a sixfold recovery in the share price.
Liveris is also the chairman of the Hellenic Initiative, a global, non-profit, non-governmental secular institution whose vision, through the generosity of the Greek Diaspora and Philhellene community, is to provide critical and pragmatic encouragement with financial support to sustain organizations and programs that inspire business development to empower the Greek people to strengthen their nation’s long term prosperity.
