Greek Authorities Raid UBS Branch in Athens

ubsGreek financial authorities acted on a bank account list recently provided by German authorities by raiding the UBS Athens branch on Friday evening and seizing information.
Following the raid, Greek authorities identified 200 people who were included in the latest bank account compilation that has raised concerns of mass tax evasion by Greek citizens.
In November, the German government had given the Greek government names of over 10,000 Greek citizens who had deposits in Swiss bank accounts. In response, the Greek government had pledged to investigate the lists for any cases of tax evasion or money laundering. Friday’s raid seems to have been the first result.
The bank account holders were identified following the seizure of hard disks from the UBS branch and the deposit values of these customers range from 1.5 million euros to 12 million euros, Greek media report.
