Fires and Clashes with Police Mark Anniversary of Grigoropoulos Murder (video)

fotia1The seventh anniversary of the murder of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a policeman was marked with fires and clashes with the police in Athens.
The skirmishes started after the end of the protest rally organized by anarchist factions in memory of Grigoropoulos, when protesters started throwing molotov cocktails at police.
The anarchists then moved to nearby Exarcheia neighborhood where they started barricading the streets and setting trash containers on fire. They also set a super market and a newspaper kiosk on fire, while damaging cars and smashing shop windows.
When police arrived at the area, the anarchists responded with a rain of molotov cocktails against the riot squad. Clashes with police continued in several streets with more and more hooded individuals joining in. Riot police used chemicals and stun grenades to push the anarchists back.
By 8:55 pm police had arrested 15 people, while the battles continue and it is likely they will go on well into the night.
